Buying A Policy
What Plan Type shall I choose?
Individual: If you are travelling alone
Family: travelling with your spouse and children. You can include up to 4 children who are aged between 6 months and less than 18 years old or until 24 years old if they are in full-time tertiary education.
I will include members of my family in my policy, will I get a discount?
Yes, you are entitled for a special family package rate for taking the family plan which covers you, your spouse and up to 4 children who are aged between 6 months and 18 years old or 24 years old if they are in full-time tertiary education. The age limit for adult travelling parties is 75 years old.
Is there a limit to the duration of my trip under a single trip travel policy?
Our single trip plans can cover you for trips up to a maximum of 180 days.
If I return home early, do I get a refund?
If you return home early, you do not get a refund. If you are oblivious of the length of your travel, you can buy a policy for a specific period you know you will definitely be away. Before your policy expires, you need to contact us so that your policy can be extended, if possible, for an additional premium. Please note that some policies do not allow extensions. For restrictions and limitations, please refer to the Extension of Cover section in your Policy Wording details.
Am I covered under the Travel Insurance if I am working overseas?
Our travel insurance is designed for the leisure traveller and also business people travelling overseas for business purposes. It is not designed to cover events linked to employment overseas. Please refer to the General Exlusions Applicable to all Sections contained in the Policy wording. In particular, the policy excludes claims arising directly or indirectly from, or in any way connected with, you engaging in manual work in conjunction with any profession, business or trade during your journey.
I am going skiing whilst on my holidays, will I be covered?
Should you be traveling with the intention of practising any adventure sports (like skiing) we are happy to insure you.
The only conditions that we have are:
- You must not be competing professionally
- You are not taking part in any speed-time trial or any form of race other than on foot, cycling or swimming
- You are not trekking or hiking above 5,000 metres altitude
- You have a licensed guide for:
- trekking, hiking or mountain biking in extreme areas
- off-piste skiing
- rafting, canoeing or kayaking in white water rapids
- parachuting, sky-diving, paragliding and parascending or other similar activities
- rock climbing, caving, pot-holing, mountaineering or any activities that require use of ropes
- hot-air ballooning
I am taking part in a sport event during my overseas travel, will I be covered?
We cover you for competitions such as cycling, marathons, golf so long as you're not competing as a professional.
Are there a number of trips for which I am covered if I purchase the annual Multi-trip cover?
Our annual plan covers you for all travel you take within a 12 month period. There's no limit to the number of trips you can take so long as each trip is no more than 45 days.
Am I covered if I am travelling overseas to receive medical treatment or to undergo a major surgery?
We cannot cover people who are not medically fit to travel and have been advised by a medical practitioner not to travel or anyone who is travelling on a trip to receive medical treatment.
What are pre-existing medical conditions?
Travel insurance only provides cover for emergency medical events overseas that are sudden and unforeseen.
A pre-existing medical condition means:
- An on-going medical or dental condition of which you are aware, or related complication you have, or the symptoms of which you are aware; or
- A medical or dental condition that is currently being, or has been, investigated or treated by a health professional (including dentist or chiropractor) at any time in the past, prior to policy purchase; or
- Any condition for which you take prescribed medicine; or
- Any condition for which you have had surgery; or
- Any condition for which you see a medical specialist; or
This definition applies to you, your travelling party, a close relative or any other person.
Medical conditions that exist at the time of the policy being issued are NOT covered unless:
they are listed as automatically covered conditions or;
your Policy clearly states that your pre-existing illness is covered by way of an endorsement.
What do I do if I am not sure if my medical condition qualifies as a pre-existing condition?

What information I need to provide to buy a Travel Policy?
We make it simple and easy for you to contract out our cover for immediate peace of mind. You’ll just need the personal particulars like National Identity Card Number as well as your e-mail address and date-of-birth for you and your travel companions if included on your policy.
How do I proceed when I get my quotation?
You can obtain a travel insurance quote by following our simple step by step guide. You can go ahead and take out your cover which can take effect immediately if you choose. You will receive an SMS or an e-mail confirming your immediate cover. If you need more time to decide, then you can save your quote and go back to it at a later date. Your quote will be saved in our system and is valid for 30 days.
How is my premium calculated?
We take into account multiple risk factors in calculating your premium. These include your age, the duration of your trips as well as the territorial zone of your travel destinations. Your level of coverage also determines the premium you are going to pay. Cover with higher limits and more extensive benefits will entail a higher premium to be paid. We have three levels of coverage to choose from.
How can I be sure that my personal information is secure?
Your security matters to us. The information you provide to us via this website is securely encrypted as it travels between your computer and our internal Information systems. The secure connection is over a protocol called secure socket layer - SSL, making it extremely difficult for others to access your information. Two ways of knowing when you are using a secured section of our website is to look for the small padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of your browser and secondly the web address in your browser window will start with "https" instead of "http". Also, we abide by the Data Protection Act 2008 for the safeguarding of your personal data shared with us.
Do I have to pay the bills if I have medical claims and claim back to you on my return?
If you have received medical treatments that necessitate your hospitalisation, you must obtain a medical certificate advising of the injury, illness or sickness and the treatment received as well as the bank details, if possible. Medical costs can be very high in some countries and circumstances. You MUST contact April Assistance as soon as possible so they can speak to the medical facility on your behalf and arrange for your prompt admission and authorise payment. For other medical treatments that do not require any admission to a hospital, you must obtain a medical certificate advising of the injury, illness or sickness and the treatment received and provide us with all the medical bills that you have paid for claim back and refund on your return.
What shall I do in case of emergency or need travel assistance?
For emergency assistance anywhere in the world at any time, our assistance service provider April Assistance is only a telephone call away. The team will help with medical problems, locating nearest medical facilities, your evacuation home, locating nearest embassies and consulates, as well as keeping you in touch with your family and work in an emergency.
If you are hospitalised, you or a member of your travelling party, MUST contact our assistance service provider, April Assistance as soon as possible. If you do not, we will not pay for expenses or for any evacuation or airfares that have not been approved or arranged by us.
Our Assistance Service provider, April Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What is an excess?
An excess is the amount which will be deducted from any claim paid to you under the sections of your policy to which an excess applies. You will be advised which cover sections are subject to an excess and the amount of excess at the time you purchase your policy.
I am away for couple of months; do I have to wait for my return to Mauritius to claim?
You can submit a claim upon your return to Mauritius or whilst still on your trip. Our claims officers are able to email claim forms to you, however you will still be required to provide original supporting documentation (e.g. receipts) by post or e-mail.
I do not have receipts for my lost or damaged luggage and personal effects, can I still claim?
Yes, you can still claim. We understand that you might not be able to provide receipts for each and every item. However, you still have to provide evidence of ownership. You may submit photographic evidence in conjunction with warranty cards, manuals, receipts, bank or credit card statements to support your proof of ownership.
What currency will my travel insurance claim be paid in?
Your claim will be paid to you in Mauritian rupees. When we calculate the amount we will pay you following a claim, we will use the currency exchange rate that applied when you paid your expense/s.
