Working from home at the moment?

Here’s what you need to know about home insurance.

For most of us who are working from home right now, it can be hard to stay on track. Since we’re all in this together, we at Quantum Insurance want to support you as much as we can and we want to let you know that your home insurance is still running at this time!

If you have a home insurance policy with us, Quantum Insurance will support your claims handling and processing, as per the terms of your policy.

Here is a simple FAQ to explain how working from home may affect your home insurance.

Will my home insurance be affected if I haven’t told my insurer that I’m working from home?
If you need to work from home during the lockdown, your home insurance cover with Quantum Insurance will not be affected. You do not need to contact us to update your documents or extend your cover. We are still here to support you.

My property has suffered damage and it’s uninhabitable. Will my insurer cover alternative accommodation during the lockdown?
Yes. If your property becomes uninhabitable due to loss or damage covered under your policy, we will continue to cover the cost of Alternative Accommodation for you for a maximum for one year and a maximum amount of MUR 150,000.

I have been quarantined away from my home. My home may be left unoccupied for over 30 days. Will I be covered?
In these extraordinary times if you have been unable to return to your home as a result of COVID-19 (e.g. enforced quarantine, travel restrictions/self-isolation) Yes! you’ll be covered.

Will you cover Electrical Damage to Appliances
Valuable items such as your TV, desktop computer and peripheral, Hi-Fi equipment are protected if they’re accidentally damaged. However, a home insurance policy won’t cover you against:

  • Gradual wear and tear
  • Electrical or mechanical breakdowns
  • Computer viruses
  • Dents, chipping or scratching of your equipment
  • Portable equipment such as; laptops, smartphones, unless insured separately under items you carry outside your home.

Food Spoilage?
What if your fridge lets you down and the food you’ve stockpiled goes off as a result? Don’t worry we’ve got your back. We will cover for spoilage of perishable food in a domestic refrigerator, freezer or deep freeze unit up to a limit of MUR 5,000 if it is caused by a breakdown or failure of the unit or any of its components or accidental failure of the public electricity supply to the building. Please note that for this to take effect, you must have insured the contents of your home.
What if I need Home Assistance during the curfew?
Unfortunately, in the period of lockdown, the Home Assistance service may not necessarily be available.

Am I covered for office equipment while working from home?
If your employer has asked that you work from home, we will cover you, and any equipment you own and use while working from home up to MUR 50,000. If your employer has provided you with office equipment to use from home, this would usually be covered by their business insurance so you do not need to add it to your policy.

There you have it. COVID 19 or not, we’re still doing right by our customers and will continue covering you whenever possible. Remember, we’re still working during the lockdown so if you have any questions about your home insurance policy or any other insurance-related question, we’ll be glad to help.
